President's Annual Report

Thursday 12th August 2010.
I originally came on board AMQA as a Committee Member and Mentor. With the sudden resignation, due to personal reasons of our elected President, Suzan Saliba. I was nominated as the interim President until the Annual General Meeting. I am very honored to have the Committees support in carrying out these duties and encourage the newly elected President and Committee to further contribute to this worthwhile Association.
This industry is very dear to my heart and I feel very strongly about the Principals of AMQA.
We are all very busy people with our daily lives, juggling businesses, families and commitments to organizations such as this one in a voluntary bases, and most of the time we do it very well. Even though some days we feel like we are floundering. I would like to take this opportunity in thanking the current Committee for their dedication and support these last few months.
Articles in the Australian Patchwork and Quilting Magazine Volume 19 Number 4 were published covering items such as "Your Guide to Professional and domestic quilting machines", Machine Quilters- the inside story, A day in the life of a Machine Quilter – Kathy Adams, Machine-Quilters Listings, State by State, Exhibition Review – AMQA and Festival. Also featured was the first AMQA Exhibition from 2009. This was a huge boost to the industry and us as an organization. It's wonderful to have the support of Publications such as this one.
AMQA was invited to display Member's quilts and works of Art at the Quilt & Craft Expo., held in Sydney. The feedback was very positive from the organizers and shop owners.
We are proud to say that we are continually supporting Quilt Shows in Australia. The Victorian Quilt Showcase has accepted our Sponsorship of prize money.
This year `Australian Machine Quilting Festival' being held in Adelaide, for the first time October 1-4, have offered AMQA to run a Quilt Show in conjunction with the Festival. This is a golden opportunity for the Association and our members as a whole to showcase the beautiful work that is being produced throughout the industry. We have a fabulous venue and as the Festival organizers are sponsoring well known tutors from Overseas and Australia, this will attract many visitors and interests that we wouldn't be able to accomplish on our own. At present we are working hard at obtaining Sponsorship from people and businesses associated with the industry for prize winners in each category. We have also received many nominations from entrants to showcase their work.
Since the very beginning, we as an Association have come a very long way. At present our financial membership stands at 87 and growing by the day.
Finally, I would like to again thank all the outgoing Committee for there support and welcome the newly appointed Committee and wish all a successful Show in Adelaide.
Terry Elverd
President

Christine's Selling Craft Online Tip

If you have a web site or blog, add close-up pictures of your quilting work.  That is what your customers really want to see, if they can't see your work in person.  And don't just call the picture something like image001.jpg, call it QuiltingCloseUpStipples.jpg (or whatever).  That will add lots of keywords to your site that will help it to be found on the search engines (like Google).

For a comprehensive (free) emailed course, please visit http://www.sellingcraftonline.com .  If you are wanting a new web site, tell Christine you are a member of AMQA and you will get a 10% discount - http://www.geckogully.com/websites for more information.
